Life In Your 20s: Dealing With The Negative Energy

The longer I’m on this Earth, the more I realize how easy it is to get sucked into negative vibes and energy from others. At first you don’t see how it’s truly affecting you, but over time (especially as you grow older), you start to notice. For me, it really hit in my mid-20’s. I started pin-pointing exactly where my negative energy was stemming from and told myself that I had to get rid of it and everything that was causing it. When you are holding vibes that don’t uplift and inspire you, it’s hard to progress and lead the lifestyle you want for yourself. Sure, this means getting rid of a few things you thought you needed, but that’s what growth in your 20s is all about! Keep reading for ways I dealt (currently deal) with negative energy from different factors of my life.

Negative Energy In “Friends”

I was reading an article on CNN the other day, and it said that your mid-20s is the age where you start losing friends.

The theory is that around this age, people begin to decide who is most important — and valuable — in their life and make a greater effort to hold on to those friends.
“People become more focused on certain relationships and maintain those relationships,” said Kunal Bhattacharya, a postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University who co-authored the study. “You have new family contacts developing, but your casual circle shrinks.”
I couldn’t help but think how true this is! You really start thinking about what really matters to you, and WHO really matters to you. Removing deadweight is all a part of growing up, and sometimes it’s just what happens when you’re elevating. Don’t be afraid to get rid of those who don’t support your dreams and goals. Don’t be afraid to remove those who don’t celebrate your accomplishments. Don’t be afraid to cut out those who you can’t trust. You deserve positive friends who will work to motivate and uplift you, sis!
Negative Energy At Work
You want to know what’s just as important as your home environment? Your work environment! This is a place you’re at for 8+ hours a day, so it has to exude all of the positive energy. I know at times work can be overwhelming, but you should be happy about where you are at least 70% of the time. If your workplace feels like a drag and sucks the life out of your energy, then let it go sis. Find a place that really helps you thrive, and more importantly – makes you happy!
“A toxic work environment is any that makes you feel uncomfortable, unappreciated, or undervalued. This can range from all out bullying, screaming and talked down to, to more subtle forms of poor communication, setting people up for failure, mismanagement and an air of hostility. It can come from your boss, your peers, your juniors and even your clients. No one should ever have to work in an environment that causes your stomach to go in quivers but the unfortunate reality is it’s more normal than we’d prefer. Often professionals ‘accept it’ as is, which can do more harm for you in the long-run, both professionally and also personally,” says Certified Professional Coach Lori Scherwin to Bustle over email.

Negative Energy From Within
We are our biggest critics, and social media doesn’t help but make us feel like we are less than we are (sometimes). Don’t compare your life and your journey to the ones you see around you. When you’re too focused on everyone else’s goals and dreams you neglect your own. Figure out what your insecurities are and start from there.
Humans are feeling and emitting beings, so there is always opportunity to share energy, both positive and negative. Be aware of when you pick up negative energy directly and trust that, at some point during the day, you probably picked some up indirectly. And then — do something internally to cleanse yourself that will allow you to expel from your mind, body, and heart what you are carrying.
