Lately I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I built my confidence during photoshoots, and it’s honestly something that I never thought about! Guys, back when I first started I was extremely nervous and a little concerned with how people would view me. You know those awkward stares that you receive when you’re taking photos in public? Yeah…it took me SO long to get over the stares and just focus on the content. But I can truthfully say that now I’m more confident in my craft and willing to try new things during my shoots. Keep reading on how I overcame my shyness and really owned my craft!
So besides the fact that people were asking me about how to be more bold during photoshoots, what really sparked me to write this post was the fact that yesterday my friend Saheedat and I decided to hop on the back of a firetruck and have a whole photo shoot lol. It felt so liberating – and the fact that we weren’t even concerned about how people would view us was a plus. But it took awhile for me to get to this point in my blogging career. If you were to ask me a year or two ago if I would take a photo on a firetruck I would’ve probably told you no…absolutely not! Here’s what you have to do though:
- Surround yourself with confident people – The energy you keep is soooo important! The more confident people you keep around you the higher your spirits will be. Just thinking about it – you really do turn into the company you keep. If you’re around people who are always doubtful and low in spirits then that’s exactly how you will feel. Being around friends who constantly motivate me to do exciting and out of the norm things really helps to boost my confidence and energy levels.
- Be your biggest fan – If you don’t gas yourself up then who will? Make sure that you’re constantly feeding yourself positive words and speaking them out into the universe. How you feel about yourself in the inside definitely will show on the outside – oh and people will notice, too. Before you look for others to motivate you be sure that you’re motivating yourself, boo!
- Figure out what works for you – Don’t just look at other people on social media and try to copy them. Yes, it’s one thing to be inspired, but it’s another thing to do something that you know is completely out of your element and comfort zone. For example, I know that “sexy” photoshoots are not my thing, so I will never try to force this to be ME. I like fun, bubbly, cafe-type shoots. So figure out what you like and go from there. Things are always easiest when you’re doing them for YOU.
