This past weekend was nothing short of amazing. I got to finally be a tourist in my new city, and explore every artsy part of New York I could find. I realized a lot this weekend…one of the things being that home isn’t necessarily a place. Home can be a person…home can be whatever makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Home is what you make it to be. This relates to so many aspects of life. Too often we get caught up in trying to label everything, but very seldom we reevaluate how it makes us feel.
It’s a lot like the seasons. Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate other things/pieces that make you feel good. On my trip to the Bronx to visit the Botanical Garden, I tapped into my balance: what makes me feel and how it makes me feel.
Let me first start off by saying that the Botanical Garden was one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen since being here in New York. It was so huge that we weren’t able to cover a lot ground like we wanted to, but the areas we did see were definitely worthwhile (I’ll save this for another post!).
I wanted to feel comfy, but stylish, so I threw on a grey midi skirt and sweater crop top, both from Forever 21. I paired this look with my peachy duster jacket from Akira and my grey and rose gold Nike Air Max.
Although the weather was extremely beautiful, I decided to go for a more sleek look with my bun. Buns are always my go-to hairstyle when I’m not too trilled about straightening my hair for the occasion.
To accessorize I just wore my main statement pieces. I feel like I wear these pieces in a lot of my posts, so you guys probably already know that it’s my Michael Kors watch and velvet black choker. I also carried my vintage black cross-body Coach purse.
All The Feels
Sometimes life isn’t as easy as picking out an outfit and heading about your day, but it can be. Life can get hectic. It can get really crazy, and sometimes we look to others to reassure our feelings or our directions, but at the end of the day it’s about what you want…what you need…and what feels like home to you.
I challenge you guys to go out and do things that make you feel good about yourself! Whether that’s wearing that dress you’ve been eying of awhile, or texting that special someone. Don’t think twice about it. Life is too short to think about the what if’s and that should’ve could’ve would’ve. You’ll find the best things come from stepping out and exploring what makes you feel alive. What makes you feel at home.
Also, if you ever get a chance visit the Botanical Garden in your city! And if they don’t have one, visit another city to explore.
